PRODUCTION
Our studio has a wide range of production capabilities to create a final product that is both unique and beautifully executed. Production costs are affected by a number of variables directly linked to labor and materials and not necessarily quantities. These factors may include complexity of designs, number of rounds and complexity of edits, assessment of final artwork by production, final selection of materials, supplies and contents, complexity of assembly, mounting and fulfillment, approval times, expediting, and shipping, delivery and installation costs. Our studio will provide material and production suggestions based on your budget and design goals.
production techniques
letterpress
A printing technique that involves the fabrication of a custom metal plate, specific to your design. This plate is inked and pressed into a high quality paper, which transfers the ink and leaves a deep impression.
FOIL STAMPING
A custom metal plate is fabricated and pressed against specialty foil. The foil then transfers the design onto paper under pressure and heat, creating a metallic effect. Available in a variety of colors, but most commonly seen in gold and silver.
EMBOSSING / DEBOSSING
Creates a 3-dimensional raised (embossed) or sunken (debossed) effect in the paper by pressing a custom metal die into high quality paper without the application of ink or foil.
DECKLING
Paper is hand-torn at the edges to create a feathered, handmade effect and add texture to the presentation.
DIGITAL PRINT
Computer technology is used to print the image from the screen to paper. The designs are then trimmed to size and/or mounted to additional layers or materials to add thickness or execute the final product.
LARGE FORMAT
Similar to digital printing but on a larger scale, a flatbed printer is used to print images on a variety of oversized materials such as paper, glass, acrylic or fabric. These can be mounted to materials such as foam or wood to create stable displays, or stand alone and employ other techniques for installation such as easels, frames or custom build outs.
WAX SEALS
A wax sealing stamp is fabricated featuring a custom logo or other embellishment. The stamp is pressed by hand into hot sealing wax, creating an impression. Typically used in invitation suites to close inner envelopes or as a part of the assembly of interior pieces, these can also be used to add visual interest to onsite needs such as place cards, menus, table numbers, etc.
paper
tooth
The texture of paper is called its tooth. This can be super smooth or have subtle roughness to it like an eggshell which can add an interesting tactile quality.
COLOR
Aside from a variety of shades of white, paper is available in nearly every color imaginable. Our studio will make appropriate suggestions to bring out the best in your design.
WEIGHT
The measurement of a papers thickness, or caliper, is directly related to its weight. The heavier a paper is, the thicker it is. Paper weight is measured in pounds and grams per square meter, however the type of paper is also a factor when determining thickness.
20 pound text is similar to something you’d stock your home printer with, 80 pound cover is an index card.
